Right Livelihood Award Ceremony & Acceptance Speech

On December 4, 2024, Hebron human rights defender Issa Amro and his organization Youth Against Settlements (YAS) received the Right Livelihood Award — widely known as the "alternative Nobel Prize" — at a ceremony in Stockholm, Sweden. The award recognized Amro and YAS "for their steadfast non-violent resistance to Israel's illegal occupation, promoting Palestinian civic action through peaceful means." Right Livelihood

Amro and YAS have successfully mobilised local communities and international allies to resist the ongoing Israeli occupation through peaceful means, while facing constant pressure from settlers, the Israeli military, and the Palestinian Authority. Amro has been detained, tortured, attacked on the streets, and subjected to judicial harassment, yet has kept his unwavering commitment to non-violent resistance, which he sees as the only way to achieve justice and peace for the people of Palestine.
