About Friends of Hebron
MISSION
Friends of Hebron supports the resilience and nonviolent struggle of the Palestinian community in Hebron, in the occupied West Bank. We work on the ground, in the United States, and internationally to help families remain in their homes, strengthen civil society, and build a movement rooted in nonviolence, human rights, and steadfastness.
ABOUT
Friends of Hebron focuses specifically on the Palestinian community in Hebron, especially in the H2 area under Israeli military control, and supports them in remaining in their homes despite the hardships and violence they face under occupation.
In both the U.S. and Israel, extreme right-wing political forces are increasing in power, contributing to the accelerated expansion of settlements on Palestinian land. In Hebron, recent years have seen the expansion and reinforcement of checkpoints, the closure of additional parts of the Old City to Palestinians, the establishment of a separate municipal body for settlers, and the authorization of new settlement units on Shuhada Street, a major thoroughfare that was once the city's busiest commercial hub and is now closed to most Palestinian traffic and pedestrians.
OUR WORK
What We Do
Support the resiliency of the Palestinian community in Hebron, especially in the H2 area under Israeli military control, to remain in their homes despite the hardships and violence they face from the occupation.
Empower, educate, and train Palestinian youth to use nonviolence as a means of resistance and to use cameras to document human rights violations.
Raise awareness in the international community about the situation in Hebron and encourage action to advocate for freedom, justice, and equality.
Support the use of creative nonviolent direct action as a peaceful way to pressure the Israeli government to end policies of apartheid and occupation.
In the US: provide education about the historical and political situation on the ground in Hebron.
In Hebron: support families living under the most difficult conditions and strengthen the infrastructure of civil society.
